A cheap marketing strategy?

“Eat chocolate and save the planet”

This might sound as a cheap publicity stunt with which to guilt-force the customer into buying chocolate, but let’s be honest, who needs to be guilt-forced into buying chocolate?

Whether you believe in climate change or not, the truth is that according to the World Biodiversity Council (IPBES), around one million species will be threatened with extinction in the coming decades and one of the main problems, besides deforestation, is the lack of biodiversity.

Our solution: Cacao!

For those of you that may not know, cacao is a fruit that grows on trees, just like apples and oranges, in tropical rainforests. Traditional cacao plantations (cacaotales) can be planted together with as much as 40 different species of trees and crops.

Besides helping preserve the biodiversity of the area, each cacaotal can help the local population support itself. By selling the cacao beans and growing their own food, they have a 100% sustainable plantation that empowers them and gives them a sense of belonging. It preserves their traditions as well as the environment since traditional cacaotales work as buffers zones between urbanized areas and rainforest. The buffer also works for the animal wildlife of the area. It is the best solution for everyone.

Last, but no least, every tree planted on a healthy cacaotal can absorb 274 g more CO2 than the normal chocolate bar production (Footprints4food and CarbonRoots), so besides helping the local population and preserving the environment, eating chocolate from traditionally cultivated cacao will also help reduce the carbon footprint on the planet.

With this in mind, what are you waiting for?
